Grant and Loan Programs
U.S. military and VA grant programs – veterans and soldiers may be eligible for assistance with home modifications through multiple grant programs. BILD is a CCR contractor meaning we are an eligible provider for VA grant programs including the HISA (Home Improvement and Structural Alterations) grants for home modifications, SAH (Specially Adapted Housing) grants for soldiers injured in the line of duty, and SHA (Special Home Adaptation) program for home modifications. BILD provides services to veterans utilizing these grant programs and offers special discounts to veterans and military personnel. The Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation – a Milwaukee charity focused on assisting individuals with spinal cord injuries and neurological disabilities.
Wisloan program – loans available for assistive technology and home modifications – low interest loans 500 or above (case by case) for accessibility – requires a reasonable credit history and ability to eventually pay back the loan 414-225-2910.
Reverse Mortgages – An option for homeowners to utlize their home equity to support their needs without having to give up their home. Click onto the title for an informational website for more information regarding the pros and cons of reverse mortgages.
Easter Seals Foundation – supportive foundation that offers assistance for persons with disabilities – the Easter Seals offers charitable assistance for persons with disabilities.
Support Organizations
Wisconsin ALS Association – Support for families and persons living with ALS. Does provide some assistance with accessing equipment and funding for persons living with ALS
Multiple Sclerosis Foundation – a national program with local offices that provides support, information, resources and assistance for persons living with Multiple Sclerosis. The M.S. Foundation offers financial assistance in some instances for the needs of persons living with M.S.
National Spinal Cord Injury Association – Resources and information for persons living with spinal cord injuries with active southeastern Wisconsin chapter.
Medicaid and county programs that offer assistance for home modifications
IRIS program – The IRIS program under Wisconsin Medicaid provides opportunities for funding of home modifications in some cases. This program offers individuals flexibility with use of their funds to address their medical needs.
Community Care – a Wisconsin Medicaid managed program that may offer some benefits for certain modifications to your home
Family Care –long term care program for elderly, people with physical disabilities or persons with developmental disabilities. Family care does assist with home modifications in some instances
Aging and Disability Resource Center of Kenosha County – Resources and information for elderly and disabled in the Kenosha and Racine areas
Community and Charitable Resources for persons with disabilities
IndependenceFirst – offers a variety of resources for persons with disabilities and assists individuals with a variety of grant and forgivable loan sources. Wheelchair Recycling program of Wisconsin – sells discounted refurbished equipment that include wheelchairs but also assistive devices for walking and bathroom adaptive equipment.
Rebuilding Together – services available for assistance/volunteer connections for service associated with home accessibility geared toward low income elderly or disabled. Southeast Regional Center for Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs: Information and referrals that are up-to-date and confidential, connections to community, state and national resources, health benefits assistance and transition planning, a listening ear from someone who has been there, a family lending library with over 4,000 books, DVD’s, audio and videotapes, links to support groups, news letters, listservs and training opportunities and more.
The Ability Center – This is currently in the planning stages is an exciting mission in the Milwaukee County area for the creation of an athletic and fitness center, not just “accommodated for” or “accessible to” people with disABILITIES.
