Last week we had an amazing discussion with Damian Buchman, the founder and executive director of The Ability Center.  The Ability Center is planned to be a one of a kind facility designed first and foremost to meet the needs of individuals with physical and developmental disabilities — while also welcomi5765451437 61e22c2be6 o 300x200ng able-bodied participants.  It will have 200,000 square feet and will house 6 full-size basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts, a 6-lane 200m track, and a 32-foot climbing wall.  Damian and The Ability Center’s mission is to provide accessible, affordable, and inclusive athletic, fitness, and recreation programming to children and adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities in a positive and empowering environment, while focusing on their abilities, not their disabilities. In other words: A building without obstacles.

Here at BILD we will be doing whatever we can to make Damien’s vision come true.  Moving forward you will be able to get updates through our Facebook page and newsletters on the ways we as a community can help make The Ability Center happen.  One of the ways we can all help is to visit The Ability Center’s Facebook page and also visit their website at www.tacwi.org.  On there website you will see a way to donate to this great cause.  Their current program is 100,000 strong for Ability.  You can, for $100.00, sponsor a virtual foot in The Ability Center.  Please consider this cause during this holiday season!
